Peri Peri (or Piri Piri) sauce is a spicy, tangy sauce with roots in Portuguese and African cuisine. It’s commonly used as a marinade, dipping sauce, or condiment for chicken, seafood, vegetables, and grilled meats.
Ingredients
- 8–10 red chili peppers (fresh or dried)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
- 1 teaspoon sugar or honey
- Salt to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Peppers
If using dried peppers:
- Soak them in hot water for about 10 minutes until softened.
If using fresh peppers:
- Chop them roughly.
For a milder sauce:
- Remove the seeds.
For a hotter sauce:
- Leave the seeds in.
2. Blend the Ingredients
Add to a blender or food processor:
- Chili peppers
- Garlic
- Olive oil
- Red wine vinegar
- Lemon juice
- Smoked paprika
- Cayenne pepper (if using)
- Sugar or honey
Blend until smooth.
3. Adjust the Flavor
Taste the sauce and adjust:
